Beyond the price

Three countries, three very different experiences

Estonia

  • +Short trip: flight or ferry under an hour from Helsinki
  • +Clinics serve in English
  • +EU country – familiar consumer protection
  • Prices 2–3× higher than Georgia
  • Large sessions (4000+) often split into two visits
  • ·Good choice for a smaller hairline restoration

Turkey

  • +Direct flights to Istanbul, all-inclusive packages
  • +World's most experienced hair transplant industry
  • Conveyor belt: 10–20 patients per day, technicians do most of the work
  • "Turkey hair": unnatural hairline, sparse result
  • Complaints and revision surgery difficult due to distance
  • ·Quality varies wildly – clinic choice decides everything

Georgia

  • +Lowest price level – without the conveyor belt
  • +Experienced hair surgeon performs the entire operation personally
  • +English-speaking contact person on site throughout your treatment
  • +Clinic, hotel and transport arranged in advance
  • No direct flights from most Nordic/UK cities: 6–8 h with one connection
  • ·Best for larger transplants where the saving is in the thousands
We'll say this plainly

Who a hair transplant abroad is NOT for

I've written a book on protecting yourself from scams, so I'm not going to dress anything up. A hair transplant isn't the right answer for everyone – whether at home or abroad:

How it works

Four steps to a new hairline

Step 1

Send photos

Fill in the form. You'll receive secure instructions for sending 3 photos of your head: front, top, and side. No commitment.

Step 2

You receive graft count and price

The surgeon assesses your donor area and required graft count. You get a written treatment plan within 48 hours – explained in plain English.

Step 3

We organise the trip

We book the operation date, hotel and transfers. You only book the flights – we help with those too.

Step 4

Surgery and follow-up

One clinic day (6–8 h), 1–2 check-ups, home on day 5. Monthly progress follow-up with photos for 12 months.

Frequently asked

The questions everyone asks

What's the difference between FUE and DHI?

In both methods, grafts are extracted individually from the back of the head. In FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), small openings are made in the scalp first, and grafts are then placed into them. In DHI (Direct Hair Implantation), grafts are implanted directly with a Choi implanter pen without separate openings – the channel and implantation happen with the same tool. DHI allows denser placement and is better for fine-tuning the hairline, but is more expensive and slower. For large sessions (4000+ grafts), FUE is essentially the only option.

Who performs the surgery – the surgeon or technicians?

At Turkey's conveyor-belt clinics, the surgeon often only marks the hairline; grafts are extracted and implanted by 3–5 technicians simultaneously. At our clinic in Tbilisi, the surgeon performs the entire operation – the hairline design and every implantation is done personally. It's a decisive difference in the outcome, particularly in the naturalness of the hairline.

When are the results visible?

The transplanted hairs shed within 2–4 weeks (this is normal, not a bad sign). New hairs start growing after 3–4 months. Visible results at 6–8 months, final result at 12–15 months. The clinic follows your progress monthly with photos.

How do "Turkey hair" failures happen, and can they be avoided?

Most common causes: 1) unnatural hairline (too straight, too low, wrong angle), 2) too-dense implantation causing grafts to die from lack of oxygen, 3) over-harvesting of the donor area leaving patches at the back. Behind all of these is almost always the conveyor-belt model where one surgeon supervises 5–10 operations in parallel. One surgeon – one patient – one day costs a little more, but delivers the right result.

Will my health insurance cover this?

No. Hair transplantation is a cosmetic procedure and isn't covered by public healthcare or private health insurance – whether done at home or abroad. Everyone pays privately.

Who is behind HairGeorgia?

Seppo H. Metsälä – a Finnish entrepreneur with over 50 years of experience in international trade across 65 countries, now based in Tbilisi. I know the local clinics personally and I'm on site while you're being treated. The company is registered in Georgia (Seppo Henrik Metsala Private Enterprise).
